DIY cheap brake ducts

Brake ducts are a cheap way to lower the temperature of your brakes. We will not discuss why you should have brake ducts or wether it is a usefull mod, as we have done this before several times. This time we will only discuss how to make them.

The intake:
The air has got to come from somewhere. You can get it from basically anywhere on the front of your engine. The easiest way to get cold air is to get it from the front bumper. If you have a car that gets used for racing a lot then you can usually get a set of brake ducts like this kit for the dc2. Even cheap car companies like autostyle sell kits like this so it shouldnt cost too much. If you really want to cheap out you can just tywrap the tubes underneath the car. Just make sure your car is not slammed if you are planning this.
Hose:
You have mounted a nice intake into the front bumper? Yeah? Good. Now you should get some tubing. Companies such as the autosport company sell some nice brake duct tubing which are heat resistant. If you buy these you can be sure that they are up for the job. If your pipingroute does not have too much hot objects in the vicinity then you can always take some cheaper hoses such as the ones that are used  to operate the aircon at home.

Mounting it.
Ok, You got your intake in the bumper and a nice tubr that you can use to feed the brakes. Whats next? The last job is to aim the tube towards the brakes. But its not as simple as that. If you have vented brakes you will just cool one side of the brake if you just point it at the brakes. The best option is to aim the tube to the center of the discs so the air will shoot through the brakes and cools both sides. This way you will have the best result. As always you can buy some expensive products such as carbon guides but you can also make them yourself out of some aluminum tubing. Just make sure the hose cant touch anything while steering and you are good to go. Its time to check out wether your brake cooling is actually working or not.
