Plate type LSD's
Today we will discuss the differences between the 1 way, 1.5 way and 2 way LSD. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each type.
If we look at the above picture we see the differences in pinions of the 3 types of LSD's. Because of the shape you can easily see when they are active. The 1 way is only active when accelerating, the 2 way both on accelerating and also when having the throttle released. Finally we have the 1,5 way which works when accelerating and a little bit when decelerating.
Don't expect the 2 way to be better just because it has a higher number though. It is all dependant on your driving style and the type of race you enter. A 1 way LSD is mostly used for FF cars as otherwise you will have a lot of trouble with understeering while taking your foot off the gas in the corner. Also people use a 1 way for auto X as the initial turn in with this model is the highest. A 2 way is used mostly for drifting as the lock will remain the same while on and off gas. A 1.5 is used mostly for grip cars such as time attack and track cars. This because it combines the best of both the 1 and 2 way LSD. But this does not mean you are limited to using just this type for your type of race. There are people driving a 1.5 for drifting because they use the car as a daily and people using a 2 way for time attack because it suits their driving style. It all depends on the driver.
